Cranium Measurements of Dog #1 and #2

The maximum length of the craniums of Dog #1 and #2 were measured to be 139.3 mm and 159.5 mm, respectively, corresponding to "small" and "mid-sized" specimens as classified by Kotondo Hasebe (1952). Considering the measurements of the craniums dating from the end of the Initial Jomon excavated at the Higashimyo site in Saga Prefecture, it seems reasonable to surmise that the known size variations of previously reported Jomon dog bones (Early through Late) took form before the end of the Initial Jomon.
