The mandible gradually tapers from the molars to the premolars and the dentition twists only slightly towards the buccal and lingual sides—features common to Jomon dog mandibles. Furthermore, the deep masseteric fossa, where the end of the masseter muscle is attached, suggests that although it was a small dog, it had strong masticatory capability.
