Skull and Extremity Bones of Dog #1

Most buried dog bones have been found in a flexed burial position, with the complete articulated skeleton preserved. This is also true of the bones of the two dogs found at the Kamikuroiwa Rock-shelter site: the bones of nearly every part of the body were preserved. The complete permanent dentition and the fused epiphysis of the extremity bones indicate that they were mature dogs—phenotypic features which are very similar to previously reported Jomon dogs.
