[recto] Glosses on the Romans (1.16-18), probably by the 12th-century theologian, Gilbert de la Porrée (1076-1154), a disciple of Bernard of Chartres. The Biblical text, in large proto-Gothic script, occupies a rather narrow, inner section of the page. 5 initials at the beginning of the sentence are in red, blue and green. The glosses in a smaller script which fill most of the page, are written in double columns, with lemmata appearing occasionally in inner margin. A later marginalia at the top of the recto side indicates that the book was lent to 'my learned honest friend Mr. Batholomewe Younge, 1597.' [ョ verso] |
